Little Road Trip with Friends

Sarah and Bill, our friends from Dallas, decided to take advantage of a Southwest Airlines special and flew into San Diego. They have hosted us at their house a couple times and now it was our turn.

We took them to the Ritz Carlton in Monarch Beach for welcome cocktails.

Then we went up to the Central Coast on a little "Sideways" tour. The hills are covered with wildflowers now.

We had refreshments at Longboards, on the pier at Stearn's Wharf.

Sarah ponders the menu at Santa Barbara Fish House.

JJ and I shared Macadamia crusted sea bass. Fabulous.

We took them the back way, up past Lake Cachuma to Cold Springs Tavern.

Of course there would be wine tasting.

On the way home we stopped for lunch at Duke's in Malibu. Excellent.

After a breakfast of Machaca con Huevos prepared by yours truly, we headed back to San Diego. We stopped at the Carlsbad Flower Fields for a photo op.

Followed by a short trip through Balboa Park. Which got us into a major traffic jam at Petco Park, where the San Diego Padres' opening day game was just getting underway--what are the odds!

Finally, we dined at Roy's at the Marriott Marquis in San Diego, where we stayed the night.

  1. time I need a tour guide, I'll know who to call. Loved all the food and drink choices even tho I've never been near any of them. They just sounded classy and worthy. Here in our western town I long for a dining experience extraordinaire....or even just good. If we go to Telluride, there are some high ended Trip Advisor recommendations. But our favorite place is 30 min toward the mountains. Taco del Gnar.... the best tacos ever but not the ordinary kind. We get the portobello......delish. Check out their website for a menu. Down the street is a summer place only. served out of a silver vintage Airstream for eating on the patio. Amazing vegan foods and assorted interesting offerings. Mexican restaurants in town and a wonderful small Italian spot (owned and prepared by a Mexican family) are about all that gets our business. Well, and Qdoba for the naked burrito bowl of rice and beans and pico.
    OK, now I"m hungry .....
    Hit 'em straight !!
